This article says that people can have specific measurable influence on others - out to three degrees of freedom - in a range of ways from obesity, through depression, to happiness. It also says that specific types of ideas can be spread. And, unlike the "tipping point" idea that a few influential people are what make the difference, this says that a sufficient number of ordinary people can entrain more people.
